Miss “Happy Feet” Megan Dickie 3rd Place! Why She Loves Dance?!

Young competitive dancer with 3rd place award

Happy Feet is what they call me!!  I dance everywhere and it drives my parents crazy sometimes.  All I have to say is “I can’t help it… it’s in me” and then they don’t get mad at me for dancing down the aisles at the grocery store, in the kitchen or in the shower.

Dance is a huge part of my life and will always be. Right from the beginning I knew that dance was my happy place. It’s a place where I feel safe, where my best friends are and where I am never judged. My dance family is my second family. There is never a day that I wake up and complain that I have to go to class. I go and try my best, sweat a lot all while having fun! Who wouldn’t want this life? Why do I dance? I dance because it shows how I feel and always puts a smile on my face. Dance makes me who I am. I dance because it keeps me active and builds my confidence every day. When I accomplish a new dance skill, it’s the best feeling in the world. There is nothing like it when you finish your last pose in class or on stage and all you can hear is clapping and seeing the smiles on people’s faces.

Even though dance often takes time away from hanging out with my school friends, going to the park after school, sleeping in or going to the movies or birthday parties…. it was the best decision I made. I love being part of a team. Some of my best friends are on my dance team and I couldn’t imagine dancing without them. We are very close and are there to support and cheer each other on whenever needed. Best part is we are all equal.

I often get a chance to watch the older girls at dance and these are the ones I look up to and I aspire to be as good as them one day. Not only am I inspired by them but also I am inspired by my dance teachers. They have taught me who I am as a dancer. They are so supportive and have taught me if I keep trying, I can achieve anything. One of the best parts of being a dancer is being able to assist and help the younger dancers. I love to show them what dance is all about. I remember how amazing my first dance class was and that’s what I want those students to remember too. I am not only teaching them how to dance, but how dance makes them feel and how much fun it can be!!!

And this is why I dance!!!

Signed, Happy Feet
